
He was born September 2, 1917 in Bartow County, a son of the late Elihue Richard Summey and Nellie Emaline Abernathy Summey.
An ordained Baptist minister, Rev. Summey pastored Clear Creek Baptist Church and Bethany Baptist Church in Bartow county and Fairview Baptist Church in Smyrna. He was an active member of Clear Creek Baptist Church and retired from Chemical Products.
Francis loved gardening, fishing and watching his Martin birds come back to their gourds in February each year. He was affiliated with Tellus and the Bartow History Museum. The casting shed at Red Top Mountain State Park bears his name and he was instrumental in starting the Hills of Iron Program at Red Top. Francis had a deep love for his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his wife, Annie Louise Davis Summey, he is survived by his sons and daughter- in- laws, Marion and Ann Summey, of Adairsville, Ronnie and Jane Summey, of Dalton, Donnie and Pat Summey, Ricky and Barbara Summey and David and Kay Summey, all of Cartersville, one daughter, Cathy Abernathy, of Cartersville, one brother, Jessie Ray Summey and one sister, Maycille Hufstetler.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond, Roy, Albert and J.T. and his son-in-law, Stevie Abernathy.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Wednesday, January 30, 2013 from the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home, with Rev. Jimmy Temples, Rev. Nathan Chance and Dr. Kenneth Summey officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ken Summey, Kevin Summey, Jimmy Summey, Phil Summey, Forrest Abernathy and Derek Lanham.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 till 8:00 P.M. Tuesday.
