Harold Dewayne Bearden, Sr., died at his home on Sunday, November 5, 2017. His wife, Isabel S. Bearden, survives him with his three children, Arnold Bertling (Bert) Bearden, Harold Dewayne (Wayne) Bearden, Jr., and Elizabeth (Buffy) Williams, all of Cartersville, Georgia. He was the beloved grandfather of seven grandchildren: Craeden E. Bearden, Pierce Bearden, Miles Bearden, Harold (Hal) Bearden III, and Lucy Bearden, Harrison Williams, and Lasseter Williams. He was the son of the late Arnold R. Bearden and Ruth Tibbits Bearden.
His sisters, Gloria Damp of Atlanta and Shelia Welch of Cartersville, and his brother, Lynn Bearden of Cartersville, survive him. He has followed his brother Denny M. Bearden in death.
Harold was a graduate of Cass High School, where he participated in school sports, and was on a State Basketball Championship team two years in 1957 and 1958. He went to Shorter College on a basketball scholarship, and was elected Student Body President. While there, he attended the Republican Convention in California as a student representative for Georgia. Harold graduated with a Chemistry and Biology major from Shorter College in 1964. From 1968-1980 Harold was the owner and operator of Private Pickett's Restaurant, a local restaurant known by many for the "best biscuits in town." Following his retirement from the restaurant business, he turned to real estate development and rentals. In his later years, he enjoyed his farm surrounded by family and nature.
Funeral services to be held in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8th with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Owen Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers are Miles Bearden, Hal Bearden, Harrison Williams, Lasseter Williams, Craeden Bearden, Nicholas Bazelmans and Christian Bazelmans.
Contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association, Alzheimer’s Association, American Breast Cancer Association, or Amedisys Hospice in memory of Harold Bearden.
