She was also preceded in death by her sister Mattie Ann Cabe, brothers Willie Cabe, Jr., Marvin Douglas Cabe, and her sister-in-love Rose Cabe.
Hazel graduated from Cass High School in 1956. She was proud to be a “Colonel” and would gladly tell you about her love for them. She was a lifelong caregiver, who loved to serve others and care for them. She began her career working at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, in downtown Atlanta, GA from 1958 to 1961. She then returned home to Cartersville, on the day that Sam Howell Memorial Hospital, opened its doors in 1962. Hazel worked in the labor & delivery department at Sam Howell, until the new Cartersville Medical Center opened its doors in 1985. Hazel would continue to work in the labor & delivery department, until her retirement in 2008. For 46 years, she served her community taking care of countless mothers and babies. After her retirement, Hazel went back to volunteer weekly at the hospital, and she volunteered on the labor & delivery floor. She would always light up when she would see a mother that she took care of, and lots of times that included not only their children, but grandchildren as well.
Hazel loved Jesus, and was a member of Northside Methodist Church, in Carterville. She also attended Cartersville First Baptist Church, and NorthPointe Church in Adairsville, GA. as well. She loved spending time with her family and friends, watching wrestling with her grandsons, seeing her granddaughters dance and play piano, and cheering on her Atlanta Braves.
