December 19, 1927 – March 20, 2020
On Friday, March 20, 2020, Inez Townsend Gravley of Cartersville transitioned from her earthly life of 92 years into her eternal life with her Heavenly Father. Inez was born in Gordon County on December 19, 1927, to the late Carter and Susie Townsend. She was the wife of the late Walter (John) Gravley.
Inez was a beautiful, kind, and compassionate Christian woman who always had a smile and warm greeting for everyone she met. After retiring from First Brands, she loved working in her yard and could be found on her John Deere mower until she was 90. Inez’s greatest joy was found in doing for others. Whenever she saw a need, she did whatever it took to see that need was met. Inez enjoyed watching the Braves and Tiger Woods. She was a member of First Baptist Church and loved her church family. But most of all, Inez loved being “Mamaw” to her grandsons and great-grandchildren and spent much time proudly bragging on them. Inez was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband and parents, Inez is also preceded in death by brothers, H.L., Bobby, Billy, and Larry Townsend all of Powder Springs.
Inez leaves behind her son and his wife Ronnie and Donna Gravley of Cartersville; grandsons Scott (Ashley) Gravley of Cartersville and Nathan Gravley of Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren Madeline and Hunter Gravley of Cartersville; sister Eunice (Raymond) Jones of Marietta; brothers Glenn (Dot) Townsend and James (Shirley) Townsend of Powder Springs; numerous nephews and nieces; and special friends Jim and Judy Little.
The family would like to thank the staff of Tranquility of Cartersville for the love and compassion they showed to “Miss Inez” during her time there. Every person involved in her care treated her with the utmost respect, kindness, and concern. They truly became her family, and she loved each of them dearly. Thank you to the staff of Transitions Hospice Care, who helped to make Inez comfortable in her final weeks.
Graveside services will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens on Monday, March 23, at 2:00, with Pastor Danny Barker officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cartersville First Baptist Church building fund.
