IN THE CARE OF
Owen Funeral Home
Ivan Wayne Holden was reunited with his wife , his father, his nephew, all of his grandparents and other loved ones on March 8, 2023 at the age of 51. Ivan was born in Rome, GA and resided in Taylorsville, GA for most of his life.
Ivan is survived by his mother Kathy Diane Mullinax Holden, as well as 2 children, 1 grandson, 1 sister and 2 brothers which include, daughter, Leann Simmons and son Levi Simmons, grandson Bentley Holden, sister Amy Bourzikas (Paul); brothers, Barry Holden (Ann) and Benji Holden.
Ivan was predeceased by his father Russell Wayne Holden; wife Dana Nichole Holden; grandparents JC and Leo Mullinax; grandparents William and Mary Holden.
Ivan was the previous owner of Holden Roofing and Remodeling. Ivan’s love for gospel music was known by all. He loved to listen to Gospel music, play gospel music and sing it. Ivan was an amazing musician who was inspired and mentored by his grandfather JC Mullinax of the Mt. Pisgah Quartet. When Ivan was 7 years old his grandfather bought him his first bass guitar and taught him how to play it. Over the years Ivan enjoyed playing and perfected his talents. All those who have had the pleasure of hearing him play would likely agree he was truly gifted with a bass guitar. Ivan also enjoyed playing the drums, the piano and singing.
Ivan was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ivan’s favorite sport was fishing. He loved to be on the water with family and friends more than just about anything. When Ivan was much younger, he would skip school every chance he got and spend the day fishing. Later in life, every day he could take off work and could go you would find him at his favorite fishing hole. He knew exactly what bait to use and exactly how to get the fish to bite. I’m not sure he ever came away empty handed. Ivan’s biggest competitor when it came to fishing was his father. The two of them spent a lot of time fishing together and it was always about who caught the most or the biggest. If the two of them weren’t competing at actual fishing, you could still count on them to compete with their fish stories. We still aren’t sure which one of them was the victor in these competitions.
Ivan used to take his wife, children and mother to a nearby nursing home on Saturday afternoons. His mom, Kathy, would play the piano and Ivan, his wife and children would sing for the residents before Ivan would share the gospel with them. They often looked forward to vising the nursing home and enjoyed seeing the smile on most of their faces, except for a couple of the elderly ladies there that would often fight with each and make as scene during the middle of his sermon.
Ivan will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Saturday, the 18th of March, 2023 at 1:00PM in the sanctuary at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church with Rev. Tracy Collum and Rev. Josh Cowart officiating.
