James Griffin (Red) Pruitt passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer. James was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, respected Naval Officer and a friend to many.
James was born in Cartersville, Georgia during the Great Depression. He graduated from Cartersville High School and enlisted in the Navy. In the Navy, James was stationed in Hawaii and many other locations throughout the world. While in Hawaii, he met and married Violet Crivello Pruitt. After having three children he settled his family in Milpitas, California in a new development that offered his family a good life with a small-town atmosphere. James retired from the Navy after 30 years, dabbled in real estate and then joined the Milpitas Unified School District Maintenance and Transportation Department.
James joins his wife of 61 years who preceded him in death. He is survived by his son James (Katy), daughter Patti (Kerry), and son John (Terre); grand-children Blake Belanger (Jessica), Joshua Pruitt, Chris Pruitt, Meghan Paris (Bryant), Angus Pruitt, John Pruitt, Brittany Smith (Daniel) and Lauryn Pruitt; and great-grandchildren Jackson Belanger and Violet Paris. James is also survived by his loving sister Mary Ann Windsor.
James will rest with his wife Violet and parents James and Mary Pruitt.
A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, November10, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Juan Anzora officiating.
Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
