

She was born November 17, 1931 in Bartow County, the daughter of the late John Akin Baker and Amanda Cochran Baker and was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She graduated from Cass High School in 1950 and during her life, worked at EZ Mills, Bartow County School and Peoples Livestock.
Mrs. Simmons married Sam Simmons in 1956 and they had two children, Sammy and Sissy. She was known to all as “Aunt Jamie” and will be forever remembered for her giving spirit, generosity and kindness to everyone. She never met a stranger and saw the good in every person. Aunt Jamie held a special place in her heart for all children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Sam Simmons and a sister and brother in law, Barbara and Bill Blankenship.
Surviving is her son and daughter in law, Sammy and Wendy Simmons, daughter and son in law, Faith (Sissy) and James Curtis, a brother and sister in law, Wesley and Liz Baker of Kingston, grandchildren, Charlotte and Cheyenne Frady and Cameron Simmons and many nieces and nephews, each of whom she considered her own.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. David Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday and Tuesday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Cameron Simmons, David Evans, Marty Baker, Robby Simmons, Haynie Cochran, Corey and Blue Evans and Cody Tidwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be , Cliff Martin, Floyd Ponder, Ronnie Ponder, Ralph Jones, Sammy Evans, Benny Hithcock, Darrell Tidwell and Billy Jones.
Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Drive, Cartersville, Georgia is in charge of the arrangements.
