Mr. Jim Milton Schmidt, age 72, of Cartersville, GA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, February 14, 2019. Mr. Schmidt was born on November 27, 1946, in Cheektowaga, New York, to the late Mr. Milton and Mrs. Florence Miller Schmidt.
Before moving to Georgia, Jim spent many years working in New York as a metal stamp technician and as a butcher. He moved to Georgia from New York in 1974 with his wife, Nellie, where he continued his butchering career and also started his own landscaping business, J and N Landscaping. He spent his life working hard for his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He became known to his family and friends as 'Mr. Fix-It,' because of his ability to fix or repair almost anything. He was an avid outdoorsman and nature lover, which prompted he and his wife to move south for the warmer weather, which was more adequate for his love of all things outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, camping, and golfing, but above all else loved fishing and the water. He could walk the river for hours, just enjoying nature, for it was outside in nature that he felt closest to God. He took his children on numerous fishing trips from the time they were old enough to walk, and later in life enjoyed being 'Papa' to his two grandchildren. He spent many years as a member of Trinity at the Well, which he enjoyed attending with his family and fellowshipping with other friends and believers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Milton and Mrs. Florence Schmidt; his brother, Donald Schmidt; his two sisters, Kathy Ernst and Diane DePriest, and his sister-in-law, Debbie Schmidt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mrs. Nellie Schmidt. He is also survived by his children, Scott (Mersadies) Schmidt and Abby Schmidt; his grandchildren, Bennjamin and Emily Schmidt; his sister, Linda Massee; his brother, Milton (named after his father, whom his family refers to as 'Milty'); his sister-in-law, Belinda Dziadosz; many nieces and nephews also survive to cherish his memory, including his children of the heart, Michael Rieske, Janet Nash, and Mary Spencer.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, February 25, 2019 at two o'clock in the afternoon at Trinity at The Well in Cartersville, Georgia, with Reverend Steven Lyle and Reverend Mark Jordan officiating.
The family will receive friends in the narthex of the church from one o'clock in the afternoon until the service hour.
