

Mr. Jodie L Hill, 96, of Marietta, Ga passed away peacefully of natural causes in his home on Saturday Evening, February 20th, 2016. Visitation will be Tuesday Feb 23 from 5-8pm & Funeral Service will be Wednesday Feb 24 at 2:00pm at Owens Funeral Home in Cartersville, Ga with interment to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Jodie was predeceased by his wife, Blanche Pirkle Hill. He was the son of William T Hill & Ludie Abernathy Hill. Brother to 9 deceased siblings: Loretta McDonald, Tommy, Oda, Nettie Mae Baker, Walter, Edith McMItchen Jackson, Leecy Head, Goldie Chaffin, & Milton. Uncle to Numerous Nieces and Nephews. Two daughters: Jodielyn Hill Hewatt & son in law Kenny of Marietta, Ga & Vicki Myra Hill of Woodstock, Ga. He was Grandfather to 4: Chad A Hewatt & Todd E Hewatt and Hillary Davis Massey & Katie Davis Howell. Great Grandfather to 8: Cole Hewatt, Ruth, Eli, & Ezra Hewatt, Addie, Corbin, Kepler, & River Howell.
Mr. Hill was a WWII Veteran, Battle of Normandy Beach, 4 Medals of Honor with 1 being A Purple Heart, he earned title of Sharp Shooter as well. He was a member of the Etowah Valley Historical Society & 2010 Lifetime Achievement Recipient. A Shriner, A 32nd degree Degree Mason. His hobbies included Playing the Violin & Fiddle, Cabinetry, Repairing & Refinishing Antique Furniture, Bird Watching, Pheasant & Quail Hunting, Relic Hunting, Coin & Stamp Collecting, and he was an International Traveler. He was a Sales Executive for Life & Casualty (AIG) Insurance Co. & Established Celebrity Endorsements for the Company as well. He climbed the Corporate Ladder to Vice President of the Company & retired after 40yrs of service with them. Jodie Purchased The Chief Pine Log Homestead in Bartow Co. Ga. The property was later acquired by Renouned writer, Cora Harris which later named "The Valley". Mr Hill took pride in restoring "The Valley" to its original pristine condition. This restoration earned its name on the National Historical Registry. This accomplishment earned him the honor of July 21, 2009 being deemed "Jodie L Hill" day in Bartow County. He then donated the the Registered Historical Home Site to Kennesaw State University who recognized him with an Honorary Doctorate.
Pallbearers include grandsons, Chad A. Hewatt, Todd E Hewatt, grandson-in-laws, Scott Massey, Peter Howell, great grandson, Cole Hewatt, nephew, Joe Head.
Owen Funeral Home, 12 Collins Dr., Cartersville, GA., has charge of the funeral arrangements.
