John Paul Mathison

Mr. Mathison was born in Cartersville on October 23, 1928, the son of the late Ed Mathison and the late Viola Cooper Mathison. He worked as a milkman with Jackson’s Dairy, Carrol Creamer, and Atlanta Dairies. He was a great husband, father, grandfather or “Paw Paw”, and a great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Lucinda Bearden Mathison; his brothers, Henry, Raymond, Richard, Charles, and Joe Bob Mathison; and his sister, Shirley Mathison.

He is survived by his sons, Dr. John Eric Mathison (Carol) and Stacy Mathison (Lisa); his grandchildren, Lainey McLellan (Ryan), Jessie Ann Street (Scott), Alexis Marie Rains (Logan), Anna Clair Jones (Alec); his great grandchildren, Paige McLellan, Sadie McLellan, Sylvia Street, Julia Street, Ross Rains, Harrison Rains, Hudson Moser, Remington Mae Jones; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Dr. John Eric Mathison officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at the funeral home from 6:00 pm -8:00 pm.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 10:30 am and include Chris Lyerla, Brian Bearden, Jerry Mathison, Mitch Jenkins, Randy Jenkins, and Stacy Mathison. Honorary Pallbearers are Hudson Moser, Ross Rains, Harrison Rains.
