John Morris Motes, 89, of Kennesaw, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 4, 2021. He was born on February 22, 1932, in the Blackwell community of Marietta, Georgia, and remained a resident of Cobb County throughout his life. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Lola Mae Motes, his parents Clyde Walter and Pearline Sams Motes, and four brothers, Carl, Glenn, J.W., and William (“Bill”) Motes.
Morris was a hard-working, kind, and generous man who impacted those he encountered. He established Morris Motes Electric in 1963, a business that continues to thrive after nearly 60 years. Although a charter member of the Kennesaw Church of God, he has worshiped and served at the Church at Liberty Square for more than 30 years. One of his greatest joys was helping with the Harvest House ministry each Thursday, distributing about 21,000 pounds of food and feeding 1200-1500 individuals from the local community every month.
Morris is survived by his sons Lanier (Sherri) Motes, Duane Motes, and Dwight (Heather) Motes; grandchildren, Caley, Garrett, Cierra, Clark, and Ivana Motes; sisters, Florine McClure, Lydia Pugliese, Kattie Doris Hunton, Frances Brinkley; and brother Robert Motes. He was a loving and faithful husband, Dad, Papa, big brother, and friend, and he will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at The Church at Liberty Square, 2001 Liberty Square Drive, Cartersville, GA 30121, on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11:00 am with Dr. Jacob King officiating.
