John "Kerry" Roberts

February 27, 1966April 9, 2021

John Kerry Roberts, aged 55, passed away on April 9, 2021, in Cartersville, Georgia. Kerry was born on February 27, 1966, in Thomasville, Georgia, to the late Glenda Jean (King) Gillespie. Summing Kerry into a few words would be impossible; he was undefinable. He spent his vibrant life passionate about painting, covering any open canvas with impressionistic, colorfully bold strokes that evoked immense emotion. He had an energy that filled any space and those around him with immeasurable love, compassion, and witty humor. Kerry was a strong confidante who prioritized both honesty and care, and would move mountains for anyone in need if he could. Kerry showed unmatched loyalty to all of those he loved. Kerry is survived by his wonderful father, George Gillespie, brothers, Kevin (wife Lynne), Kyle, and Rance (wife Claudette), sister, Lindy (husband B.J.), and nieces and nephews, Tricia, David, Victoria, Trenton, Kennedy, Brenton, and Jack. …plus many, many friends he made along the way. A private celebration of life will be held soon. Please visit to share fond memories and leave condolences to the Roberts family. Owen Funeral Home is honored to serve the Roberts family during this difficult time.

I was very sad to hear that Kerry had passed away. He dated my daughter for several years and we all became quite attached to him. I thought (hoped) he would become another son-in-law. He had a great personality and was so much fun to be around. He spent a fabulous week with our family one summer on St. George Island. He enjoyed catching and cooking crabs for us. He also gave most of us great haircuts. We shared a love of gardening and he planted three Pagoda plants in my yard. Every spring I think of him and then again in the summer when they bloom their red flowers. Iwill always have these beautiful plants to remind me of his beautiful soul. I am very sorry for your loss, but I know you have many special memories as we all do to sustain you through these very sad times.

25 years ago I was lucky enough to go into a neighboring place to get a haircut and meet up with Kerry. He was a friend and one of the coolest and funniest persons I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

Later when he went into landscape he planted the yard at my office at 906 North Monroe, Tallahassee. His work continues to this day.

I had the opportunity to meet up with him last year and it was great.
He was such a happy person. I am stunned and will miss him.

I'll always remember Kerry as having a wonderful smile, sparkling eyes, and warm heart. What a treasure, and friend. May he rest in peace, and Godspeed.

He loved to laugh. His integrity was near and dear to him. Although we did not share the same DNA, he was indeed my brother. I will miss him dearly.
