John E. Summey "Red", age 87, of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Wednesday August 15, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. John was born November 6, 1930 to Lucille Young Summey and L.J. Summey in Cartersville, GA.
John entered the United States Army in 1950. He served in Korea and Vietnam. He spent most of his Army career with the Executive Flight Detachment (Presidential Helicopters) otherwise known as Army ONE. John retired June 1, 1977 at Fort McPherson, GA after reaching the rank of SGM. After retiring from the Army, John joined the United States Secret Service in Atlanta, GA, February of 1980, working on the Jimmy Carter detail in Plains, GA. He retired from the Secret Service in 1995. John was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge here in Cartersville. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
John was preceded in death by; father L.J. Summey and mother Lucille Young Summey.
John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Arnold Summey; daughter Nancy Summey Krasnesky (Jeff); brother Kent Summey, brother-in-law, Tommy Arnold (Mary Jane) ; grandson John Charles Wilson, step granddaughters: Karla M. Adams (Brent), Laura E. Landon and Christina L. Hefty (Timmy), nieces; Charlene Agan, Angela Spires and Deborah Standridge, nephews; Ward Standridge, Greg Arnold and Brian Arnold, and four great grandsons, Ethan and Caleb Adams and Skyler and Elijah Mattheson.
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Summey will be conducted at Faith United Methodist Church 501 Grassdale Road, Cartersville, Ga 30121 Monday, August 20, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Charlie Marus officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA at 2:30 in the afternoon.
The family will receive friends at Owen Funeral Home Sunday, August 19, 2018 from four o'clock in the afternoon until seven.
