Joseph Edward Stewart, Sr., age 78, of Cartersville, GA, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025, surrounded by his children. He was born in Mobile, AL, on November 27, 1946, to Clarence Joseph Stewart and Thelma Yvonne Allen Stewart.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Thelma Stewart; sisters, Linda Stewart and Mary Stoner; brother, Robert Stewart; and niece, Mary Frances Stoner. He is survived by his brother, Vince Stewart; daughter, Leigh (Billy) Miles; sons, Joseph (Sarah) Stewart, Jr. and David (Kim) Stewart; grandchildren, Josh, Matthew, David, Savannah, Libby, Will, Reagan, and Baker; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Known lovingly as “Pop Pop,” Joe was deeply loved and cherished. When he wasn’t tinkering with cars or tending to his garden, his greatest joy was spending time with his big family. Day or night, he was always there — ready to talk, listen, lend a hand, share a meal, or simply offer one of his warm hugs. His humor and optimism lifted everyone around him.
Joe’s faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. He read and studied the Bible daily and lived his faith quietly but powerfully. He was slow to anger, quick to forgive, steadfast in trials, and generous to anyone in need. He had a heart for people down on their luck and was eager to help in any way he could. He enjoyed getting to know people and made friends everywhere he went — especially at Waffle House and Doug’s Place. We find comfort knowing he is now in the sweet presence of his Savior — free from pain and reunited with family and friends who went before him.
Joe was also a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving as a radio operator in the Vietnam War. He earned seven honors, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He wore his Vietnam Veteran hats with pride and loved his country deeply.
We are profoundly grateful for the gift of Joe’s life. He was our family’s backbone and heart — steady, kind, and unwavering in love. He changed all of us for the better. We will miss him more than words can say.
