Mrs. Karen Lea Caster Everhart, age 80, Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Educator, and Volunteer, passed away on May 30, 2020. Karen was born on August 13, 1939 and raised in Newark, New York, daughter of the late Benjamin and Leila Caster. Karen graduated from the State University of New York at Albany and later earned her Masters of Business Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Karen met her husband John at a college party in Syracuse and they had their first date on New Years’ Eve 1959. They were married in 1962 with a Marine Corps formal wedding, they have lived in several states and overseas, and moved to Cartersville in 2007. Karen became known as “Mom’s E” and willingly packed up herself and her family to follow John’s military, engineering and construction assignments across the United States and around the world. Karen and John are members of the Sam Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Cartersville.
Karen’s first teaching experience was in South Huntington, Long Island and then at high schools in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. While in Pennsylvania she began teaching at Business Colleges and continued her vocational education work in Massachusetts, California, Louisiana and Texas. In the 1980s she was Corporate Education Director for Tri Associates a company with twelve business schools located in Virginia, Florida, Louisiana, Texas and California. Also in Pennsylvania Karen became active with the General Federation of Women Clubs and was active in State Clubs in California, Louisiana, Texas and Georgia.
Karen was the Family Author and created a Family Tree Historical Book of the Everhart and Caster families. She also completed a Family Cookbook, a Family Calendar, a Two Year Documentary of our family life in Ghana, West Africa and a Fifty Plus Year, three volume book of yearly family activities with pictures. Karen also completed a VCR video of her children from infants to college. Karen loved to cook, had a hundred cookbooks and was a member of Gourmet Cooking Clubs in all the states where she lived. She will be missed for her Butter Fly Kisses and her infectious laughter.
Karen is survived by her husband of almost 58 years, John, her brother David Caster of Ithaca, NY, her sister Debbi (Peter) Goodman of Ithaca, NY, her daughter, Tammi (Bob) Meisel, of Appolo Beach, FL, son Tim (Laurie) Everhart of Cartersville, GA, and son Ted (Cindi) Everhart of Snellville, GA , grandchildren Corey, Cody and Colin Meisel, Alex and Victoria Everhart, Reno and Hunter Everhart , and great grandson Houston Meisel, and numerous nieces , nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Staff and Management of Townsend Park Nursing Home for their love and care for the past year.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic there will be no formal public visitation or memorial service at this time. Karen will be buried at some future date with husband John at the U. S. National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
