LaMerle Putnam

Mrs. Putnam was born on January 19, 1932 in Langdale, AL, daughter of the late George Ingram and Minnie Lee Wood.

Mrs. Putnam was a proud Army wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and a longtime active member of Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School and was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group. She also was a member of the Gold Star’s Wives, a Brownie Leader and a Softball Coach. Her true passion in life was being a hostess, and she spent most of her spare time entertaining guests in her home. She was an extraordinary cook and her recipes for red velvet cake, gingersnap cookies, banana bread, and Brunswick stew were sought after by many and will forever remain a secret, but to a chosen few. She was a true southern lady with impeccable style. She is already missed and will always be remembered for her servant like attitude towards everyone she knew.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Putnam; brother, Lamar Hamrick.

Survivors include her daughters, Penny (Ross) Collins and Carla (Alva) Roberts; grandchildren, Cally Roberts, Emma Collins and Avery (Miles) Kendall; very special dog, Daisy.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 11th of August 2016 at Jonesboro First United Methodist Church with Dr. George R. Freeman, Jr. officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Lanett, AL.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family for one hour prior to service time at the church.
