Mrs. Malissa Dawn Earwood, age 48, of Cartersville, GA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. Malissa was born to Mr. Donnie and Mrs. Pat Summey of Cartersville.
Malissa was, above all else, a loving wife and mom. She spent her life taking care of and raising her children, whom she homeschooled. She was a devout Christian that consistently displayed love and compassion. In addition to being active in church for all of her life, Malissa served as a missionary with her family in the upper Midwest. She helped her husband plant a church in Chamberlain, South Dakota from 2005 through 2012. Their family was in the process of helping plant their second church in DeSmet, South Dakota. Plans were made to move there soon, but God had different plans.
Malissa made a lasting impact in the lives of countless women, helping them to become better wives, mothers and Christians. She didn't intentionally seek out or set out to minister to anyone; people were naturally drawn to her. She truly was a Titus 2 woman.
She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Duane Earwood. She is also survived by her parents, Mr. Donnie and Mrs. Pat Summey; her nine children, Sarai (Gus), Daniel, Jonah (Rose), Aaron, Rachel, Samuel, Mary, Annie and Joshua; her grandchildren, Jeremiah, Kezia and Augustine. She is also survived by her brother, Jimmy, and her sister, Jennifer.
A Celebration of Life Service for Malissa will be held on Thursday, February 14 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Brock and Pastor Seth Bunch officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Owen Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 13 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.
