Mrs. Marietta 'Grandma' Kahres, age 100, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2019. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 5, 1919, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Clancy.
Grandma was the epitome of the old world strong woman. Her outspoken personality and descriptive language were well known throughout all of her friends and family. She spent many years as a housewife and mother, raising her three children. She returned to work later in life and spent her working career at Airway Equipment Rental in Queens, New York. After retirement she relocated to Cartersville, Georgia to be near her daughter and her granddaughter. She enjoyed gambling and playing cards while sipping Manhattans. She enjoyed dancing all of her life, learning hip-hop dance moves well into her 80's. She was a grandmother of the heart to everyone that she knew, young and old. She would scold you viciously one minute, and then turn around and make you meat loaf the next minute. She valued honesty above everything; anyone who was honest with her was accepted by her. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Kahres Sr. She is also preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings, Doris, Tom, and Walter.
She is survived by her children, Raymond Kahres, Lynne Kenny, and June Mills; her sister, Betty; her six granddaughters, Ashley, Lisa, Lauren, Tracy, Kathy, and Debbie, and many great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory.
Arrangements will be forthcoming.
