Marjorie Woods Arp
June 22, 1933 – November 24, 2021
Marjorie W. Arp of the Center Community, Cartersville, Georgia died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on November 24, 2021. Her death followed an extended illness. She was 88.
Mrs. Arp was born June 22, 1933, the youngest of five children born to Ben and Eva Cox Woods. Her brother Leeroy Woods and sisters Helen Bell, Ruby Moss and Mamie Shaw all preceded her in death. As a youngster in Cartersville she attended the city schools and traveled around with her father, singing gospel music on radio programs and also loved working at the old Sewell Drugstore. As an adult she worked at Ernie’s Restaurant, Cartersville Undergarment and Goodyear Mills.
On Valentine’s Day, 1951 she married Perry Arp and they lacked 3 months making it to their 50th wedding anniversary due to Perry’s death in 2000. Mrs. Arp was mother to 6 children: Alan Arp, Vickie Ford, Tim Arp and Robert Arp preceded her in death. She also lost one grandson, Gary Smith. She is survived by 2 daughters, Rita Yancey (Wayne) and Betty Reagan (Winfred) both of Cartersville. She has 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as two special daughters-in-law, Carolyn Arp and Michelle Arp.
Mrs. Arp was a lifelong member of Center Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She loved listening to tapes and tv programs of gospel music. But she will be remembered most for her cooking-huge Sunday dinners, her biscuits, fudge, divinity, peanut brittle and all types of cakes and pies. As long as she was healthy, you never entered her house when she wasn’t cooking something.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Center Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Phillips, Rev. Dewey Atchley and Rev. Sammy Adams officiating. The interment will follow in the Center Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 29, 2021 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
