Michael Wallace Teems

Mike is preceded in death by his father, Wallace Teems; mother, Catherine Long Teems and brother, Larry Teems. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Karen Mercer Teems; Son, Michael Austin Teems of Goodyear, Arizona; daughter, Courtney (Caleb) Mitchell of Adairsville, Georgia; grandchildren, Easton and Paisleigh, sister, Arinda Meeks of Auburn, Georgia; several nieces and nephews.

Mike was raised in Atco and lived on 17 Wingfoot Trail. He loved the Atco community and had fond memories of the old school, baseball field, old grocery store and the pool. At the age of 15-16, he moved to Grassdale Rd. He graduated in 1971 from Cartersville High School. Upon graduation he started working on cars in his parents’ driveway. He worked with his father at the original Teems Automotive on Cassville Rd until he opened his own shop at 13 Felton Place. He was in business for a total of 42 years.

Mike taught automotive shop from 1977-1988 at Cass High. He was a mentor for many students during his time at Cass High and Coached Girls JV basketball. He was an avid scuba diver and dove in the Pacific, Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. He was a pilot, a builder, carpenter, mechanic, comedian, counselor, mentor, teacher, friend, a jack of all trades. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed raising cattle on his farm. He loved the cowboy life.

The family would like to thank the staff of Wellstar Oncology and Dr. Bhimani, the Piedmont Infusion Center and the Piedmont Hospital Emergency room.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Shepherd officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with Andy Wilson, Jimmy Walsh, Shane Knox, Derek Hart and Frank Demski serving as pallbearers and Roger Blakeney, Buster Hudson, Buddy Satterfield, Tim Massey, Michael Mercer and Dean Brown serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
