Morrell "Kip" Perkins Jr.
October 4, 1956 – January 9, 2013
Morrell Kipling (Kip) Perkins, Jr. died on January 9, 2013 from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. Kip, son of Morrell and Doris Perkins, was born on October 4, 1956 in Cartersville, GA. He graduated from Cartersville High School in 1975 where he served as a drum major for the marching band. After high school, Kip served his country in the Georgia National Guard. He attended Young Harris College and Kennesaw Jr. College, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics in 1979 from the University of Georgia. He spent many years working with his parents in their popular local restaurants, Morrell’s. He was well-known for his delicious culinary skills. For the last ten years, he we employed by AT&T. Music was always a driving force throughout Kip’s life. He was a very gifted and self-taught singer, pianist, organist, and guitarist. As a young man, he was a member of various rock bands and in more recent years was an avid participant in his church choir. Kip touched many lives with his musical abilities and passion. Kip was a loving, adoring, and devoted father who believed his two daughters were his proudest achievements in life. In addition, Kip enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. The outdoors was always an important part of enjoying life for Kip. He was an avid fisherman and a lover of nature. In 2008, Kip married Melony Kaye Godfrey. This marriage reignited the love of childhood sweethearts. They resided in Cartersville until her passing in October, 2011. Kip is survived by his mother Doris Ellen Childs Perkins, daughters Sarah Ellen Perkins Thompson and Brittony Kay Perkins, son-in-law Landon Thompson, grandchildren, Nora Elise and Joshua Ellett Thompson, sisters Jeanette Perkins Graves and Debbie Perkins (David) Turner, brother Frank (Karen) Perkins, 5 nephews, 2 nieces, and many great nephews and nieces, aunts and cousins, and close family friend Nan Brideau. He is preceded in death by his father Morrell K. Perkins, Sr., brother Robert (Bob) Cantrell, and sister Charlotte Perkins Johnson. Visitation for Kip will be held Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 4 to 7 pm at Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville. A memorial service for Kip will be held Monday, January 14, 2013, in Cartersville at Owen Funeral Home at 11 o’clock am. Funeral service and internment will be in Elberton, Georgia, on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Woodlawn United Methodist Church at 1 o’clock pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Kip’s memory to Woodlawn United Methodist Church located at 3780 Brad Dixon Road; Elberton, GA 30635.

I am Kiip's "other mother". I was 10 when he was born and I have been taking care of him to some degree all his life. I love him dearly and will miss him severely. However I know our heart strings are still attached.

As others I worked with Kip at AT&T. I always talking to Kip. He was a very nice person. Through all the pain and suffering he always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. I will miss him.

Kip was a friend of mine for several years, I worked with him at AT&T. He was a wonderful person, he loved to make us laugh with the jokes he told. He spoke of his family and his love for them. He will be missed very much. God bless you all.

Kip was such a joy. I could listen to him play a piano all day. What a shock to hear of his death. He will always have a place in my heart.

I am so sorry for your loss. Kip was a good man. He would tell me jokes every chance he got while we were at work at AT&T. He always had a smile and say "Hey I got a good one for you today". We would just laugh and laugh. He will be missed.

So saddened to hear of Kip's passing. I worked with him at AT&T for the past couple of years... Had the pleasure of taking several breaks and lunches with him and he always had the best sense of humor. He will be missed dearly. Mrs. Perkins and family, I worked with Kip at AT&T and spent many years sitting across from him. I have to say he was always so nice, talked about his love of cooking and shared many of his favorite recipes with me, he also shared how much he love of his family; he was such a humble man. Kip will be certainly missed.
