Mrs. Nellie Mae Worley, 91, of Dallas, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023. Born on January 21, 1932 to William Thomas Massey and Lucille Gatlin Massey of Cartersville, Nellie was the oldest of five children. She met the love of her life L.P. Worley Jr., they married on December 3, 1950 and had four daughters: Betty, Melba, Kathy, and Sophia. The family faithfully attended Sharon Baptist Church in Smyrna every Sunday. Nellie grew up in Cartersville and worked from a young age on her family’s farm, then later as a seamstress, and finally at Rich’s Department Store (Lenox and Cobb Center) where she retired in 1992 after 30 years. In 2009, Nellie and L.P. moved from Cobb County to Dallas to live with their daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Chuck Adams. Nellie was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and endeared great and great-great-grandmother. She loved to cook and was known to feed the whole family each Sunday, and every chance she could get, until her health declined. She loved her family dearly, was a fixture at extended family gatherings, cherished every opportunity to attend events for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and never missed watching a Braves game. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Lucille Massey; husband, Lloyd P. Worley Jr. (who died exactly 12 years earlier on June 18, 2011); daughter and son-in-law, Betty Worley Jones and Daryl Jones; and siblings, Thomas Massey, Earl Massey, and Ella Jo Edwards. Survivors include: daughters, Melba Lyle (Richard), Kathy Adams (Chuck), and Sophia Jones (Keith); brother, Gene Massey (Juanita); sisters-in-law, Opal Massey and Lois Massey; grandchildren, Robyn Cox (John), Steffani Adams-Nguyen (Thuy), Michele Dobbs (Alan), Brian Jones (Casey Papia), Rikki Osborne (Michael), Morgan Von Stein (Evan), and Ross Jones (Kristin); great-grandchildren, Mallory Willetts (Nic), Reagan Wilson, Walker Wilson, Harper Osborne, Nolan Jones, Nora Jones, and Wade Von Stein; great-great-grandchildren, Jacson Willetts, Cohen Willetts, and Hadley Willetts; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
The family will receive friends on Saturday June 24, 2023 from 1:00-2:00pm at Owen Funeral Home in Cartersville, Georgia. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm with Rev. Curt Mize officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens in Cartersville.
