

Mr. Westbrooks was born February 24, 1922 in Bartow County, Georgia, son of the late Columbus Westbrooks and Minnie Bozeman Westbrooks. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and was retired from the Cartersville Fire Department after 41 years of service. Hoss was Fire Chief from 1967 to 1986. He served as President of the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs in 1980. He was instrumental in getting funds for the Georgia State Fire Academy in its infancy when located in Marietta, Ga. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Coast Guard; as a Shore Patrol Officer and an instructor in hand to hand combat. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed cooking barbeque and hunting. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. Mr. Westbrooks was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Francis Hazelwood Westbrooks; sisters, Idalene Mullinax, Elease Grizzle, Marie Abernathy, JoAnne Westbrooks and 2 infant sisters; brothers, Gaston Westbrooks, Oulion Westbrooks and Eudean Westbrooks.
Survivors include a son, Norris Westbrooks, and wife Linda D. Westbrooks; grandchildren, Brent Westbrooks, and wife Casey, Memri Horn, and husband Shannon; great grandchildren, Chase, Carson and Cade Horn, Kaylee Westbrooks and Triston Berryhill; sisters, Ioma Bell, Cleo Bryson, Juanita Wilbanks; special friend, Mary Carter; caregivers, Becky Childress and Ginger Delgato; a number of nieces and nephews also survive..
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon August 14th at 2:00 P.M. in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Brown and Chaplain Randy Toms officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday evening from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Owen Funeral Home.
Members of the Cartersville Fire Department Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all Active and Retired Fire Service members.
