

Rev. Ralph Emanuel Shook, born July 3, 1932 in Cartersville, Ga., went home to be with God his heavenly Father on January 3, 2016. His wife Ruby, their family, friends, and church family were with Mr. Shook while he fought a lengthy battle of cancer. Once again, with God’s help he won the race. He was a pastor of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church for 7 years where he and his wife remain members. Mr. Shook retired from Lockheed after 37 years service.
Mr. Shook served in Korea from 1951 to 1954, in the 24th Division. He fought 3 small battles and 2 major battles in the front line. Battles lasted about 10 ½ months before getting help from the 40th Division. 202 men fought in the 24th Division. Only 2 men returned to the states alive. One being Mr. Shook. Ralph Shook gave his heart to the Lord in a fox hole in 1951. He stood proudly with honor to serve his country. Honorably Discharged in February, 1954 as a Sergeant, he started preaching God’s Word in 1957. He was Ordained at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Cartersville in 1969. In his lifetime he pastored Rydal Baptist Church, White Fellowship Baptist Church, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Corinth Baptist Church, Friendship Baptist Church, White First Baptist Church, Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He helped preach many revivals throughout the land. His last revival he helped in he was 82 years young at New Vision Baptist Church in Cartersville. He read his Bible cover to cover 46 ½ times, finding something new everytime. He had the honor to baptize his great grandson, Jonah Allen August, 2015. Ralph met his “Darlin Ruby” in 1953. Mr. Ralph and Mrs. Ruby celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary April 5, 2015. She was thrilled to be his bride. He was a very loving husband, daddy, paw paw, preacher and friend. Mr. Shook dedicated his heart and time to do the Lord’s work.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Emanuel and Adeline Ledford Shook; sisters, Edna Shook, Margie Jones, Delia Ray, Nellie Shook, Thelma Laymon, Alvie Jackson, Barbara Branton; brothers, James Shook, Johnny Shook; son-in-law, Benny Akers.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruby Allen Shook; children, Retha Smith and husband Kirt, Russell Shook and wife Dondra; grandchildren, Tiffany Allen and husband Ricky, Amber Jones and husband Michael, Ashley Kelly and husband Zach, Amanda Bishop and husband Tommy, Stephanie Stapleton and husband Mark; great-grandchildren, Michaela, Samuel, Joseph, Jonah, Faith, Emily, Bailey, Abel and 1 due in June, Cara Grace; 14 God Children; sister, Doris Garland; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon January 6th at 2:00 P.M. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Butch Cole and Michael Morrow officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Owen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Phillip Shook, Danny Ray, Tim Taylor, Ralph Daniel Davenport, Kenneth Davenport, Gary Davenport. Honorary pallbearers include all remaining nephews.
