He was born on May 6, 1941, to the late Waitsel and Frances E. Melton Cole. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Barber.
Richard is survived by his loving children: Michele Henderson (Steve) of Woodstock, GA; Penny New (Doug) of Frisco, TX; Richard “Ricky” Harold Cole Jr. of Cartersville, GA; and Sheree Elliott (Gary) of Dahlonega, GA. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Zach Henderson (Marissa), Nick Henderson (Kayla), Brooke Henderson, Taylor Cole (Amber), Landon Cole, and Jake Cole; and his beloved great-grandchildren, Ava, Ella, Lola, Steele, and Wiley. He is also survived by his nephew, Curtis Barber.
Richard was the original “Most Interesting Man.” He loved to travel, hunt, and enjoyed classic cars. He often joked that fishing was his therapy and card games were his prayer time.
He was a man who built his life on his own terms: combining a rugged, old-school grit with a deep dedicated heart for his family, friends, and community.
He was a fiercely independent, Jack-of-all-trades; auto salvage owner, part developer, and a moonshiner by tradition. Yet, he was entirely defined by his devotion to his community; his unwavering belief that true friendship is earned thru loyalty. When he wasn’t building his community or his land portfolio, you could find him in his truest element: fishing with his friends.
The impact Richard leaves on his family, friends, and community will be felt for generations to come.
