Sam was born on April 23rd 1927 in White, Georgia to parents Samuel Jackson Freeman and Gertrude McMillan Freeman. Sam graduated from North Georgia College in 1944 and immediately joined the United States Navy. Following discharge after the end of World War II, he returned home and attended the University of Georgia, graduating in 1948 with a BS in chemistry. He married Barbara Lillian Moody, a resident of Pawtucket, Rhode Island in 1949. Sam worked at Lockheed Aircraft as an engineer for 39 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Sam Jones, UMC in Cartersville, Georgia. His parents and a sister preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife of 71 years, and his sons Byron J. Freeman and wife Mary C. Freeman (Athens, Georgia), James W. Freeman and Lynn K. Freeman (Anacortes, Washington), and Samuel R. Freeman (Mukilteo, Washington). Eight grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren also survive Sam.
Private graveside service will be held Thursday the 14th May at White UMC Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Lobello and Bob McMillan officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to White UMC Cemetery for perpetual care of the cemetery.
