

He was born August 23, 1928 in Fulton County a son of the late Reynold and Alma Phillips. He grew up and spent his youth in Cartersville and always considered Cartersville his home.
He retired as a Chief Master Sargent in the United States Air Force after serving 28 years. Following his military career he retired from Lockheed Martin , Kennedy Space Center, Florida. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Port St. John, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Phillips his son, Samuel Thomas Phillips, Jr., daughter and son in law, Patricia and Henry Tippens, grandsons, Evan Phillips and Henry Tippins, step daughter, Nicole Silk and her children Chelsea and Brennen, sister, Mary Lou Weaver, brother, William Phillips and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 14, 2014, from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Willard officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens.
