Sarah Lucinda (Cindy) Mathison

Sarah Lucinda Mathison, age 90 of Cartersville, GA passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021. She was born in Cartersville, GA on May 28, 1931 to the late Jesse Eugene Bearden, Sr. and Naomi McEver Bearden.

Cindy is preceded in death by her sister, Dot Jenkins; brothers, Gene (Edith) Bearden Jr., J. B. (Grace) Bearden and Billy Bearden. She is survived by her husband of 71 years John Paul Mathison; sons, Dr. J. Eric (Carol) Mathison, Stacy (Lisa) Mathison; grandchildren, Lainey (Ryan) McLellan, Jessie Ann (Scott) Street, Alexis (Logan) Rains, Anna Clair; great-grandchildren, Paige McLellan, Sadie McLellan, Sylvia Street, Julia Street, Hudson Moser, Ross Rains, Harrison Rains; brother-in-law Gene Jenkins; sister-in-law, Brenda Bearden.

Cindy was known by her grandchildren as MawMaw and that’s why everyone else called her that even her children. She was a lifelong Baptist and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Cindy was a 1950 Graduate of Cassville High School where she was known as an amazing basketball player. She retired from Good Year Tire and Rubber after almost 40 years in accounts payable.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Friday, September 3, 2021 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Dr. J. Eric Mathison officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens with Brian Bearden, Brice Bearden, Rex Bearden, Randy Jenkins, Mitch Jenkins and Stacy Mathison serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
