Mr. Ward was born on June 27, 1937 in Cartersville, GA, son of the late John Thomas Ward, Jr. and Ida Lea Quinton Ward.
Mr. Ward loved his country and proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1954 until 1958 and was a recipient of a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a retired truck driver from American Freight and American Terminal Transportation. In his spare time, he enjoyed baking and cooking for his family and friends. The joy of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and of the Baptist Faith. He was an active member and deacon of Brandon’s Chapel.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Gid Thomas Ward; sisters, Angel Arrington and Ruth Alice Ward.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-four years, Margaret Deal Ward; sons, Tom (Angie) Ward and Billy (Willene) Ward; daughter, Bonnie (Sonny) Dunn; special daughter, Anita (Henry) Jones; grandchildren; Brandy and Scott Murphy, Jay and Cait Parrozzo, Joe and Randi Slye, Natalie and Bill Claypole, Kerri and Ty Davis, Rhonda and Jason Cochran, Chip and Ashley Dunn, David and Bridget Young and Brendon Dunn; twenty-two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Garner; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Sunday the 1st of May, 2022 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Dr. Scott Shepard and Tom Ward officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Chip Dunn, Terry Cantrell, Gene Swann, Mike Mercer, Eric Cornett, and Danny Smith. Honorary Pallbearers are Don Cornett, Gary Ray, Jerry Barnett and Bobby Knox.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock in the evening until eight on Saturday, the 30th of April, 2022 at Owen Funeral Home.
