

Rev. Chastain was born April 7, 1922 in Whitfield County, Georgia son of the late Arthur P. Chastain and Jewell Edwards Chastain. He was a retired Ordained (1945) Southern Baptist Minister with 61 years of ministry. He helped organize and establish Cloverleaf Baptist Church and later was the Pastor of Peeples Valley Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Oothcalooga Baptist Church, Shoal Creek Baptist Church, Pine Grove Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church. He retired June 30, 1999 from the Bartow County Board of Education where he was a Printer. He was a member of Wofford’s Crossroads Baptist Church and was a member of Woodman of the World for 50 years. He was a veteran of World War II having served as a Sgt. in the South Pacific where he was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Pruitt Chastain to whom he married August 26, 1950 and she passed away on March 18, 1999. He was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters; Cecil Chastain, Jess Chastain, Willie Hill Chastain, Shirley Chastain, Edward Chastain, Evelyn Rucker and Thelma Chastain.
Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law; Phyllis & Tommy Chance; grandchildren, Summer Chance Golden, and husband, Brian, Shane Pinson and Logan Chance; great-granddaughter, Avari Golden; a sister, Opal Garmon; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon March 11th, at 2:00 P.M. in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Billy Rabern officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Kenny Jacobs officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Owen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Wilburn Epps, Brian Golden, Marc Collier, Wesley Hann, Chris Everett and Richard LeClaire. Honorary pallbearers include James Hilton, Boyd Pettit, Rufus Cantrell, Bill Dent, Marcus Collier and Jack Nally.
