Weldon Cothran Youngblood

Mr. Youngblood was born March 22, 1934 in Cave Spring, Georgia son of the late Roscoe and Gladys Hobgood Youngblood. He was a graduate of Cave Spring High School and lived most of his life in Floyd County before moving to Cartersville in 2010. He worked at Pepperell Mills before going to work for General Electric Medium Transformer Plant in Rome until his retirement. He was active for many years in funeral service in Floyd County and a number of years in Gordon County where he co-owned Combs-Free Funeral Home. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Herschel E. Mize Masonic Lodge # 120 F. & A.M. in Cave Spring. He was preceded in death by 2 granddaughters, Melody Youngblood and Jill Youngblood; 2 brothers, Eugene “Gene” Youngblood and Robert “Bobby” Youngblood; 1 nephew, Barry Youngblood; sister-in-law, Joyce Youngblood; brothers-in-law, Grady Childers and William E. Jr. “Billy” Langston; father & mother-in-law, William E. Sr. “Shorty” & Gladys Langston.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty R. Langston Youngblood; a son, W. Scott Youngblood (Kim); a granddaughter, Stephanie Youngblood Johnson (Lloyd); great-grandchildren, Reese Johnson, Karys Johnson and Landon Johnson; brothers & sister, Hilburn Youngblood, Ann Steed (Leonard), Byron “Buck” Youngblood (Fannie), Dariel Youngblood, Richard Youngblood (Betty); sisters-in-law, Judy Youngblood, Shirley Childers and Carolyn Langston; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be conducted Monday morning August 25th at 11:00 A.M. at Cave Spring City Cemetery with Rev. Kenny Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Owen Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include Stanley Steed, Bradley Youngblood, Cory Youngblood, Keith Youngblood, Lloyd Johnson, Jason Langston, Ronnie Childers and Donnie Childers.
