William Edward "Ed" Bruce

William Edward “Ed” Bruce, age 82 of Cartersville, GA passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. He was born in Decatur, GA on September 10, 1939 to the late George Robert Bruce Sr., and Agnes Lucille Lazenby Bruce.

Ed is preceded in death by his brother, George Bruce Jr. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judith Bruce; daughter, Debbie (Larry) Philliber; sons, Edward “Eddie” (Tani) Bruce, Tim (Erin) Bruce, Robert (Katie) Bruce; Thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Stansberry; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean (Susie) Herring, Amy (Mark) Green; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Ed served in the United States Air force. He retired from Southern Bell after 30 years of service and worked for Shaw Industries for 12 years. In his younger years he was an interim pastor for several churches in South Georgia. Ed has been a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over forty five years where he served as the chair of the deacon board. He and Judy were instrumental in starting the children’s church program, and chaperoned numerous mission tours with TBC youth. Ed was an avid Braves fan, he had a huge sense of humor and will forever be remembered for his enthusiastic version of “Tutti Frutti”.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 29, 2022 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Tim Bruce and Dean Herring officiating. The interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 29, 2022 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
