Aline Gilberte Cote

Aline Gilberte Côté, 89, of Cary, passed away July 16, 2026. She was born in Montréal, Québec, Canada on October 8, 1936, to Marc Aurèle Côté and Irene Campeau. She was married to John Theodore Banas for 17 years. Aline had a varied career that spanned several industries such as power utilities, maritime shipping, data programming, property management, caregiving, and volunteering at Dorcas Ministries.

Aline was a passionate and gifted artist and found joy in expressing creativity through many forms of artistic endeavor. With a remarkable talent for fashion, she created beautiful designer clothing that reflected her vision, skill, and attention to detail. Her artistic spirit also flourished through painting, where she explored a variety of mediums including oils, ink, watercolor, and charcoal. She proudly displayed her work at home and gifted many pieces to family and friends. She brought color, emotion, and imagination to life on canvas and on paper. Whether sewing, sketching, or painting, she approached each creation with enthusiasm and spirit.

Beyond the visual arts, Aline held a lifelong love for classical music and opera which she shared with her father. She found inspiration and focus in the works of great composers and cherished opportunities to attend performances, including an annual subscription with her daughter to the Montréal Symphony Orchestra for many years. She was also an enthusiastic home cook who delighted in trying new recipes, experimenting with unique ingredients, and creating memorable meals for those she loved. Her home was often a gathering place where family and friends came together to enjoy good food, fun, and lasting fellowship.

Her creative passions and love of beauty enriched not only her own life but also the lives of those around her, leaving a legacy of artistry, warmth, and excitement that will be remembered fondly by family and friends.

Aline was preceded in death by her parents Marc and Irene, her sister Marguerite Côté Smiley, and ex-husband John. She is survived by her two children, Allyson and Marc Banas, grandchildren Tristan and Morgan Banas-Vogel, and brother David Côté.
