After a tenacious fight against cancer, Amy Grace Ingle Cornell Massey, transitioned peacefully into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Monday, September 15th.
Amy was born in Burlington, NC to the late Sarah Frances Adams and Rufus Clyde Ingle. She graduated from Southern Alamance in 1966 and graduated from Elon University in 1975 with a degree in accounting. Amy’s career involved accounting and diligent record keeping. She was a public servant for the State of North Carolina for many years beginning in 1994 with the Department of Transportation. Amy later worked for the Medicaid Investigations Unit in the NC Department of Justice beginning in 1999 where she was instrumental in achieving numerous criminal convictions and assisted in recovering over $150 million dollars for the Medicaid and Medicare Programs. She was the recipient of many recognitions including commendations from Director Robert Mueller (FBI), the U.S. Attorneys for the Middle and Western Districts of NC, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, and numerous other State agencies she collaborated with during her time working for the people of North Carolina.
Amy’s most treasured accomplishment is her son, James Cornell. Amy was so proud of James, and he will appreciate your prayers and support as he continues his life journey.
Being with people and serving others were Amy’s top passions. Whether she was singing in the choir, giving her time in homeless centers, baking her delicious pound cakes or banana pudding, caring and supporting others with the Circle 7, playing golf with her friends and precious O’Dell, or finding any way to simply walk beside others, Amy was giving and generous.
Amy was preceded by her loving husband, Percy O’Dell Massey, whom she dearly missed. She also leaves behind family, friends, and colleagues whom she loved fiercely.
A service celebrating Amy’s life will be held at Fellowship of Christ on Saturday, October 4th. James Cornell will visit with friends and family from 1:00pm – 1:45pm, and the service will begin at 2:00pm
On Tuesday, October 7th, Amy’s beloved church, Highland United Methodist Church, will have a time of honor and remembrance for Amy’s life beginning at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity close to your heart in Amy’s memory. Amy most recently contributed to an endowment established in memory of her cousin who passed away at a young age. Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to the Julee Armstrong Memorial Endowment that helps children purchase musical instruments and attend musical programs.
