Ann Faures Baker

Ann was born in Baton Rouge, La on October 7, 1933 to Marie and Lester Faures, the eldest of their three children. Ann’s childhood was spent in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and it is there, during high school, where she meet and fell in love with her husband, Robert Baker. The two were married in 1954 and had four children: Becky, Laura, Brett, and Brad.

Ann loved experiencing different parts of the country as she and Bob moved nationwide, meeting many new friends. She was considered a warm and loving mother, friend, and wife to her lifelong husband, predeceased in 2023. Ann received a degree in business administration from Louisiana State University in 1955, one of the first women to achieve a business degree from LSU, which she utilized early in her marriage, while Bob was overseas and she was raising 3 of their 4 young children. During their 30 years living in various parts of the country, Ann developed a passion for home decorating, which she was able to apply on their 20 plus homes, in addition to those of her children. She learned to ski and golf, and became an active member of many different ladies golf associations in St.Louis, Buffalo, and Houston, to name a few.

After 30 years of living in the midwest, southwest, and northeast, Ann was thrilled to return to the south upon Bob’s retirement. They retired to Seabrook Island, SC, where they spent their days playing mahjong, golfing, and cheering for LSU sports teams. As a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Ann cherished her southern roots but her greatest sense of pride came from her family and friends.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” (Chip) Galvin; daughter, Laura Iler; son, Steven “Brett” (Kay) Baker; son, Stewart “Brad” Baker; grandson, Patrick (Demi) Galvin; grandson, Andrew (Taylor) Galvin; granddaughter, Eva Baker; granddaughter, Kathryn (James) Hamory; grandson Alan (Alanne) Baker, and great-grandsons James, Noah, and Miles.
