Anne left this earth knowing she was loved by her 5 children – John Urquhart III (Sandra), Laura Urquhart, Thomas Urquhart (Peggy), Julia Kuzo (John), and Andrea Oswald; 6 siblings – Prescott Belt (Erika), Sandra Sampson (Charles), Bettina Belt (John), Chantal Dukette (Frank), Mary Offutt (Brian), and Anthony Offutt (Carol); 11 grandchildren ; 11 great grandchildren; 6 stepchildren – Steve Miller (Marcie), Bruce Miller (Mary Ann), Pamela Pelletier (Rodrique), Janice Miller (Ken), Jacqueline Stevens (Gail), Scott Stevens (Gail); numerous beloved step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and her best friend, Elizabeth Beyer (Tom). Anne is preceded in death by her late husband, David W. Miller; her brother Thomas Offutt Jr. (Elaine); and grandson Alexander Urquhart.
Affectionately known as Anne Calla, she grew up in Rockville, Maryland and Basking Ridge, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Thomas J. Offutt and Edith Prescott Belt. Anne raised a family in Burlington, Vermont with former husband John Urquhart Jr., and later worked in commercial real estate in Northern Virginia. She established her most treasured home in Venice, Florida, with her late husband, David W. Miller. Anne’s final residence was in Holly Springs, North Carolina, where she moved to be closer to her children.
Anne’s greatest legacy is her spirit of generosity. With a heart that couldn’t be contained by her petite frame, Anne cared deeply about helping people less fortunate than her—whether they be family, friends, or strangers. Her keen intellect and awareness of world news made conversations lively. She enjoyed travelling with family, having a glass of wine while playing on her iPad, watching Jeopardy, and writing birthday cards to every child, grandchild, great grandchild, and all their spouses. In younger years, Anne was known for her competitive golf game, where her aggressive putting helped her win a club championship.
A memorial service will be held in the spring at Anne's request. Please contact one of Anne’s children if you would like to be notified of the date and location. In lieu of flowers, Anne Calla would have wanted people to remember her by helping someone in need or donating to a community non-profit.
