Annette graduated from Rosewood High School, where her grand passions were playing basketball and writing for the school newspaper. She graduated from East Carolina in 1958 with a B.S. Degree in Education, and taught in Junior High and Middle Schools for the next forty years. As a teacher, she was respected for her excellence in developing curriculum and communicating content, and loved for her wholehearted commitment to seeing, expecting and bringing out the best in every single student.
In July of 1958, she married Donald Alford King and the two moved to Wilmington, NC. From Wilmington, they moved to Cary, NC, where they raised their three children, Donna, Lauren and Chris.
Annette is survived by her daughter, Donna Read King; son-in-law, Kevin McClain; and three beloved grandchildren, Cara, Anna and Josh. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Thompson of Asheboro, NC, and four very special nieces and nephews, Tyre Thompson, Jeffrey Thompson, Gary Thompson and Lory Beth Huffman.
She was predeceased by her husband, Don; her daughter, Lauren; and her son, Chris.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Greenwood Forest Baptist Church in Cary, where Annette was a long-time member and deacon, and served as teacher for the JOY Sunday school class since 1993.
On Wednesday, June 16th at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, Annette’s family will receive friends starting at 12:30 pm, with a memorial service following at 2:00 pm. Immediately after, a graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Cary.
