With her late husband, Dr. Bruce Zobel, she traveled worldwide, assisting in his work in forest genetics. Barbara and Bruce cared for several foster children and hosted numerous foreign students and researchers in their home.
She is survived by brother, Earl Lemon; son, Donald Zobel (and wife, Priscilla); daughters, Kathleen Ball (and husband, Gordon), Lois Hudson (and husband, John), and Julia Zobel; and five grandchildren.
She was a devoted member of Avent Ferry Methodist Church for 58 years. She also volunteered at Dix Hospital for 50 years.
An avid reader and lover of flowers and music, Barbara was cared for in her last years by health aides who became like daughters to her.
There will be a memorial service at Avent Ferry Methodist Church at 2 p.m. October 24, 2015 followed by a reception.
Memorial gifts may be made to Avent Ferry Methodist or a charity of choice.
