Barry Bennett Cooper

September 22, 1938December 24, 2017

Barry Bennett Cooper passed away on Sunday, December 24th, 2017. Born on September 22nd, 1938 in Greensboro, NC, Barry was raised in Fayetteville, NC and was the son of the late Ellis Gilbert Cooper and Agnes Mae Bennett Cooper.

Barry attended North Carolina State College and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics in 1963. It was during that time that he met the love of his life, Janet Baker whom he was married to for 59 years.

Following College, Barry was employed by Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company. Later he was employed by Bowles & Tillinghast actuarial consulting firm, and then by Book & Company (another actuarial consulting firm). In 1970, Barry was employed by American Defender Life Insurance Company in Raleigh, NC to assist in the actuarial department. It was while at American Defender that Barry moonlighted and in 1971 he coupled his mathematical skill set and his entrepreneurial desires to form a successful software company now known as Commercial Software, Inc. which continues to serve the needs of automobile dealerships.

Barry was an accomplished magician, talented pianist, and outstanding pool player. He was a political pundit, joke teller, and practical joker. Barry was a consummate friend to all he knew, a loving husband, wonderful father, and nurturing grandfather.

Aside from his countless friends and business associates, Barry leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Janet, his son Chip and his wife Angela of Fuquay Varina, NC, his daughter Karen and her husband Bob of Fleetwood, NC, his daughter Nancy and her husband Kevin of Fuquay Varina, NC, and his grandchildren Rebecca, Nathan, and Sarah.

A service will be held on Saturday, January 6th at 4:00 P.M. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home located at 200 SE Maynard Road in Cary, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Barry's name may be made to Transitions LifeCare 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or to the charity of your choice.

So sorry about your great loss, Barry was such a Teddy Bear of a man, warm, caring, and compassionate. I knew I wanted to do business with him, when he walked in my office back in 1992. After Many phone calls over the years he was always the same. I'm praying for your family.

Barry was a guy who once you met him, you never forgot him. He was brilliant but could talk to people on their own level....and could entertain and amaze you while doing so. He will be missed by all who knew him and I am honored to have had him as a business acquaintance and a friend. May the Lord give all the family peace now and forever.

So sad to have lost the #1 Father-in-law a guy could have. Selfishly, I wanted many more years to spend with him.
