Bunny was born on January 23,1937, to the late Wesley and Cecelia Soper in Glen Cove, NY.
Bunny met the love of her life, Edward Walch, through friends on a blind date. She and Ed married in 1958 and moved to Oakdale, NY where they welcomed their three children, Edward James “Jim”, Laurie, and Chris. Bunny was a devout Catholic and the family were longtime parishioners at St. Lawrence the Martyr in Sayville, NY. After a long and successful career in banking, Bunny retired as a Mortgage Loan Officer in 2007. Following Ed’s retirement from Grumman, Bunny and Ed relocated to Cary, NC in 2008 to be closer to their daughter, Laurie and her family.
Bunny and Ed truly loved living in North Carolina, building a home in the Carolina Preserve community and more recently moving to the Searstone Retirement Community. She and Ed were actively involved at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and volunteered with the Food Bank of NC. They loved singing in the choirs at both St Michael’s church and with the Searstone Community Singers. Singing with these choirs brought her such joy and happiness. When not volunteering with the church, Bunny was an avid reader, excellent baker, relentless card sender, nurturer of beautiful flower gardens, and unwavering attendee at her granddaughter’s ball games and Ed’s barber shop concerts. After retirement, Bunny and Ed enjoyed traveling, taking cruises with family and friends and making their way back to New York to visit their sons and extended families, their beloved lifelong friends, and especially their cousins.
Bunny, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, was known for her quiet, kind, and loving personality. She lived a life filled with tremendous service towards others and her steadfast devotion to her faith and the Blessed Mother Mary was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Edward Walch; her children: Jim Walch (Debbie) of Dumont, NJ; Laurie (Andy) Krebs of Holly Springs, NC; and Chris (Linda) Walch of Kings Park, NY; her 5 grandchildren: Kelly (Brian) Pahle, Kristen Krebs, Dominick Walch, Jonathan Walch, and Noah Walch; and her two great-grandchildren: Ada & JP Pahle.
