Bethany was born on October 12, 1961, in Woodstock, Illinois to Jerome and Bonnie Chase. Early in life, her father, Jerome, passed away and her mother remarried to her step father, Richard Krantz. All three parents are deceased. She is survived by her husband of 13 years, John Scanlon; her son, Jason Kampwerth and his wife, Eva, and their daughter Lillian Mae; her daughter, Raessa Councilman; her stepchildren, Jon Scanlon, Amanda Wharey, and Nicholas Scanlon; her brother; Michael Chase; and her sisters, Cheryl Chase-Cooper and Gwyn Chase-Schultz.
Bethany attended high school and community college in Woodstock, Illinois where she started a family. Then relocated to North Carolina in 1998 where she met the love of her life, John Scanlon.
She was a creative, artistic and passionate homemaker. Her creativity was reflected in her home and her life. She loved gardening, embroidery, needlework, crafting and gourmet cooking. Her hobbies defined her life as she loved sharing all of these with her family and friends. She shared her inner light, kindness and true sense of humor with all of those in her life. Bethany’s family was the center of her life and her family knew the great love she had for all of them.
She will be greatly missed by all of the people whose lives she touched.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary, NC, officiated by Rev. Dr. Bruce Taylor. The family will receive friends immedately following the service at a reception at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you make a contribution to the charity of your choice in her name to reflect her lasting contributions in life.
