

Betty Kollar Miller, 89, of Cary, North Carolina died September 23, 2014. Born February 24, 1925, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Michael Kollar and Mary Bill Kollar. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandson, Nathan Miller, her brother, Emory Kollar, sisters, Veronica “Toots” Kollar and Theresa “Tess” Kollar Sangston.
Betty attended Central United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC for many years until she moved to Cary, NC in 2001 and became an active member at White Plains United Methodist Church. Betty volunteered in the Food Pantry when able and loved the people in her Pathfinders Sunday School Class.
While in Charlotte, Betty was very involved with volunteer work at the Bethlehem Center where she and Joe helped students with literacy skills.
She retired from Eastern Airlines in the mid 1980’s. At that time she and Joe began their early retirement years traveling to many places before they settled back down in Charlotte.
She was passionate about her early years, her home town relatives and friends and traveled back to Pennsylvania to spend the summers until she was no longer able to drive the long trip. Betty cared for her husband, Joseph for many years before her health took a decline and was no longer able to care for herself.
As her health declined Betty was loved and cared for, and developed very close bonds with the people caring for her: Ms. Jessy Dixon (great granddaughter), Mrs. Tracey Dixon (granddaughter), Mrs. Janet Lively, Ms. Shante Lynch, and Ms. Karli Miles.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Joseph Robert Miller, her sons; Jay Miller and wife, Kim, David Miller and wife, Deborah, three granddaughters; Tracey, Stephanie and Johanna, two great granddaughters; Jessy and Kendall and two great, great grandsons; Carson and Cameron.
The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice for all their care, support and encouragement over the past year.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC and the funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, September 26, 2014 at White Plains United Methodist Church, 313 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC.
