Colonel Bruce Gary Brown died Saturday January 7, 2023 with his three daughters by his side.

Born in Bellefonte, PA January 4, 1936 he was the son of the late John Gary Brown and Freda Heckman Brown.

Bruce graduated from the Naval Academy in 1959 and joined the United States Marine Corps where he served 24 years. He went on to work as a contractor for the Department of Defense until 2010.

He was an avid learner and earned his master’s degree from the University of Southern California along with many post graduate certifications during his time in the military.

He was a long time resident of Alexandria, Va where he served as a mentor in the Wounded Warriors program and volunteered with the Red Cross. In 2020 he moved to Cary, NC to be closer to his daughters.

Survivors include his wife Pearl Wycoff Brown, three daughters from his previous marriage Karen Bolton and husband Gary, Kristin Brown, and Kelli Naramore and husband John, two granddaughters Hayley Bolton Riemer and husband Phil and Kristen Bolton, brother Jim Brown and wife Kathy.

Bruce ran 18 Marine Corps Marathons along with Boston and New York marathon. During his time at the Naval Academy he was on the wrestling team. He was a Boston Red Socks and Pittsburgh Steelers fan loved watching sports. He also enjoyed reading and listening to music especially Dolly Parton. Lately his favorite past times were working out with his trainer, reading and visiting with his family.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Association in his name. Colonel Brown will be buried at the Naval Academy at a later date.
