

Bruce was born October 5, 1953 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late James Edward Harrod and Agnes Marie Reherman Harrod. He was a graduate of Mater Dei High School in Evansville, Indiana and the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Bruce was also a veteran of the United States Navy. He was employed as a Director of Information Technology with Red Hat.
Bruce was preceded in death by his brother, Francis Layne Labhart. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Pamela Suzanne Harrod of Apex, North Carolina; daughters, Jodie Marie Harrod; Jessica Layne Dass and husband, Marcus; and Layne Helena Harrod of Tampa, Florida; brothers, Christian Wayne Labhart and his wife, Gail; and James Edward Harrod II of Jacksonville, Florida; sister, Rebecca Lee Harrod Stringer of St. Augustine, Florida; granddaughter, Sajel Joan Dass of Tampa, Florida; aunt Bettye Moll of Evansville, Indiana, and many beloved cousins also of Evansville, Indiana.
Bruce and his wife loved the ocean and navigating their boat up and down the Carolina coast. Bruce also had dreams of retiring and living on a large yacht on the Carolina coast. He especially enjoyed the town of Southport, North Carolina where he would spend time on his boat with his wife relaxing on the weekends. He and his wife are also strong supporters of greyhound rescue and adoption efforts. Over the years, they have adopted four greyhounds of their own from Project Racing Home in Randleman, North Carolina (www.getagrey.com).
He was extremely proud of his military service to his country and the service of all active duty and retired veterans. Bruce was especially proud of the over 70 years of military service of his family members.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home Chapel, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, North Carolina, 27511. The family will receive friends 10 -11 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
