Carl W. Bolender, Sr., 84, passed away peacefully June 2, 2011 in Cary, NC. Born on December 23, 1926, he was a life-long resident of Newport County, RI. Carl served during WWII as a gunner in the US Navy. He worked for Raytheon prior to becoming a longtime owner of Long Wharf Marina (Hurricane Gloria), Newport Harbor Sanitation and Brenton Cove Moorings. He was a beloved, caring father and a great friend to all that knew him. He loved you all and will be sadly missed.
Carl is survived by his loving children, Bob Bolender of Brewster, NY, Bill Bolender, of Middletown, RI, Chrissie Bolender Shepard of Apex, NC, Lollie Bolender of Edgewater, FL and Danielle Bolender of Newport, RI; brother, Robert “Bud” Bolender of Sacramento, CA; companion, Mary Lou Sylvia of Bristol, RI; close friend and confidant, Paul Martellino of Middletown, RI; 9 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christina and John Jaques; son, Tommy Bolender; brother, Frank Bolender; and former wife, Virginia W. Bolender.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2011 at Oceancliff Hotel, Ocean Drive, Newport, RI.
