

Carmen Machado Wagner, PhD, was born on September 12, 1946, to the late Carmen dos Santos Machado and Alipio Severiano Machado in Brazil. Carmen was united in marriage for 46 years to Brian F. Wagner, who survives her. Although they didn’t have any biological children, they took on the role of parents to their four nieces: Flavia Machado Lopes, Erika Machado Lopes, Elaine Maria Machado, Ana Machado Harris and two nephews: Jose Alipio Severiano Machado and Jonathan Bezold. Carmen is also survived by her two sisters, Virginia Machado Lopes and Sonia M. Rodriguez of Brazil.
Carmen departed this earthly life on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at her home in Cary, North Carolina after facing more than four years of lung cancer. She lived a full and eventful life. Carmen received her elementary and high school education in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Carmen furthered her education at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ receiving a bachelor's degree and a PhD in Immunology. She was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Cary. She had an interesting work history. Carmen for the last 22 years owned her own business Strategic Compliance International, Inc. in Cary. Prior to that, she worked for DuPont, Johnson & Johnson, and Wyeth-Ayerst. She had numerous friends and colleagues around the world, spoke on technical matters and authored several books.
A memorial service for Dr. Carmen Machado Wagner, PhD will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, November 06, 2022, at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 2220 High House Rd, Cary, NC. Pastor Dr. Fred Thrower will conduct the service.
