Carol Anne Edwards passed peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of April 30, 2026 at her home in Cary, North Carolina. Born Carol Anne Platt in Fairfield CT in January 1938, she was a graduate of Stratford High School, Stratford CT ('56), and Norwalk School of Nursing('61). After high school, she spent two years working for Schick making Personal Touch razors to save money for nursing school. As a student, then as a Registered Nurse, she worked in hospitals in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Kentucky caring primarily for infants and children.
In 1962, she met Wesley Edwards at a church dinner in Philadelphia; they were married 11 months to the day later in September 1963, and remained married 50 years.
An amateur seamstress, she made most of her own clothes for many years and continued to knit, crochet, and cross stitch. Her cross stitching hangs on Christmas trees across numerous states. She loved reading and rarely met a British murder mystery, or TV show, she didn't like. Her homemade brownies were required at most church potlucks.
She loved children, not just her own, and taught kindergarten Sunday School at Crescent Hill Baptist Church for decades; long enough that children she taught were bringing their own children to her Sunday School class years later.
She is preceded in death by her husband Wesley, and younger brother John Platt.
She is survived by her sisters: Nancy Miller (Edward) and Helen Holmes; her children: Lyle Edwards (Erin Culpepper Edwards), and Mary Edwards; and seven grandchildren: Jonathan Edwards, Calliope Edwards, Brennan Edwards, Joshua Edwards, Kathryn Edwards, Joshua Barrow, and Abigail Barrow, and seven adult nieces and nephews and their children.
Visitation with her family will be at Arch L. Heady and Son--Cralle Funeral Home at 2428 Frankfort Ave, Louisville, KY 40206 on Saturday, May 16 at 2.00 PM, with memorial service following at 4.00 PM. In lieu of flowers (she was allergic to most) the family encourages donations to your local Hospice or charity of your choice.
