Caroline Greene Hamrick went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 28, 2024. She was holding the hand of her much-loved husband of 64 years as she was received into the Lord’s presence. Caroline was born March 6, 1937, to Hal B. and Ola C. Greene of Boiling Springs, NC. She was predeceased by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Maida and Horace Scruggs, Boiling Springs, NC; two nephews, James Hal Scruggs, Thailand, and Elam Scruggs, Boiling Springs, NC; and precious son, David Brent Hamrick, Cary, NC.
Caroline grew up in a small, close-knit, rural community where the church was central to her beliefs and values, graduating from Gardner-Webb College, Wake Forest University, and Meredith College. She learned to love music early in life and enjoyed playing both piano and organ for her family, school, and church, serving in both formal and informal capacities. She enjoyed teaching others to play the piano for over 30 years and was a founding member of the Cary and Apex Piano Teachers’ Association.
She found pleasure in and was accomplished at caring for her home, cooking, gardening, sewing, and singing. She is survived by her husband, Philip E. Hamrick, Apex, NC; daughters, Eileen Cecilia Hamrick, Wake Forest, NC, and Ruth Hamrick Watkins (Michael), Clayton, NC; grandson, Brent Michael Watkins (Lauren), Corpus Christi, TX; and great-granddaughter, Sofia Grace Watkins, Corpus Christi, TX. She also leaves behind nieces, Noy Scruggs, of Thailand, Susan Scruggs, Boiling Springs, NC, and Alice Puckett Wright, Rutherfordton, NC; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also glad for the assistance and friendship of the caregivers from BeAli Home Care.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 4, at Olive Chapel Baptist Church, 600 New Hill-Olive Chapel Road, Apex, NC 27502. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m., prior to the service at the church. The burial will be on Thursday December, 5 at 1:00 p.m. at the Boiling Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Shelby, NC.
