Private graveside services will be held at Parklawn Cemetery in Rockville, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Charlene was born on February 4, 1931 in Elkins, West Virginia. She moved to Washington, D.C. upon graduating Davis and Elkins College in 1953. She married Robert (Bob) Bennett on June 25, 1955. Charlene taught junior high school students for several years before she left the profession to dedicate herself full time to her growing family. She spent close to thirty years raising her four daughters. Subsequently, Charlene returned to the workforce as an insurance administrator for a national association. In 2006, she retired to North Carolina.
Charlene was a dear wife to Bob Bennett for forty-five years until his death in September 2000. She was a loving mother to the late Elizabeth Baker, Catherine Harris (Herndon, VA), Karen Hartrick (Cary, NC) and Jeanne Armstrong (Rocklin, CA). She was the caring grandmother to three grandsons and two granddaughters.
