Charles Dwight Royster

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Brown & Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC 27511.

Chuck, a native of Wake Forest, was the son of the late Robert (Bob) Royster and the late Lydia Ruth Schubert. He was a graduate of Broughton High School in Raleigh. Chuck served in the U.S. Armed Forces and served in combat while in Vietnam 1969-1970. He then attended and graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan University with his degree in accounting and worked for Duke Energy (formerly CP&L) and the North Carolina Department of State Treasury. Notably, he was with the North Carolina Army National Guard until his retirement.

Chuck was preceded in death by his late wife, Sallie Overman in 2022. He is survived by his two stepsons, Boyd Overman, wife Amy, and Jeremy Overman, wife Beth, and has four grandchildren, Eve, Cash, Hayes and Ellis. Also, he is survived by his sister, Donna Lingren, husband Bill, brothers Willie and Neil Royster, wife Toi, as well as 6 nieces and 5 nephews, James, Wes, Lydia, Nadya, Lindsay, Scout, Remi, Ivey, Gavin, Gracie and Musta.

Chuck was a true “UNC Tar Heel” fan and has been for over 50 years. It was common to end a conversation with him with “Go Heels”! He also had a love for photography, calligraphy, and cooking. He was a “foodie” winning him the nickname “Uncle Chunk” by many family members.

He was a guy who survived many hardships, but never gave up on life, friends, or the Tar Heels. He was easy to love and should have been a “standup” comedian at some point in his life. No one could tell a joke better than Chuck! He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial reminder will be posted closer to the end of September.
